Key takeaways
- Most men's fertility tablets carry the right ingredients at a fraction of the doses used in studies, or hide the doses in a blend.
- CoQ10 trials used 200 to 400mg a day. Wellman Conception has 2mg.
- Two meta-analyses (2025 and 2026) found CoQ10 improved sperm motility. They disagree on concentration.
- No supplement has been proven to raise live birth rates on its own. Give any formula 90 days, then retest.
You've probably already been to Boots or Holland & Barrett. You picked up a box with a man on the front, "conception" in the name, and a label so long it looked serious. Then you took it for a month, maybe two, and the next result came back much the same.
Here's what nobody at the counter tells you: the name on the box tells you nothing. The dose on the back tells you everything. Most men's fertility tablets carry the right ingredients at a fraction of the amount used in the studies, or hide the amounts inside a "blend" so you can't check at all.
So we did the boring part for you. We lined up 7 of the male fertility supplements UK men most often compare and checked every dose against what the research actually used.

How we judged them
Your semen analysis measures three things, and every ingredient worth taking is there to move one of them:
- Count (how many): zinc, vitamin D, selenium
- Speed (motility, how well they swim): CoQ10 and carnitine
- Shape (morphology): selenium, folate, B12, B6, and antioxidants like vitamins C and E
We gave every product the same three tests:
- Is the dose close to what the studies used? CoQ10 trials used 200 to 400mg a day. Carnitine trials used 1 to 3g. Selenium trials used 100 to 200mcg.
- Can you see the dose? A "proprietary blend" lets a brand list CoQ10 on the label at almost nothing. You can't check it, and neither can your GP.
- Will you actually take it? Sperm take roughly 74 days to make. A routine you quit in week three does nothing. Fewer pills wins.
1. SPERMFUEL+ by CORE: the most dose per capsule
2 capsules a day, 14 fertility nutrients, every dose printed.
SPERMFUEL+ was built the opposite way to most tablets: start from the trial doses, then fit them into the smallest daily routine possible.
- CoQ10 200mg, the dose used in the trials, for speed
- Acetyl-L-carnitine 440mg, for speed
- Zinc 30mg (citrate), the top dose any fertility formula carries
- Selenium 200mcg (L-selenomethionine), double what most rivals use
- Vitamin D3 4,000 IU, 10 times FertilAid's 400 IU
- Methylfolate 800mcg, methyl-B12 48mcg, B6 (P5P) 8.5mg for shape
- Vitamins C and E, plus KSM-66 ashwagandha, tongkat ali, boron and black pepper extract
No blend. Every one of the 14 doses is on the label, so you or your doctor can check every number.
Where it falls short: it isn't the biggest formula on the market. FH PRO carries more carnitine (2g) and SwimClub adds NAC and omega-3, but at 6 to 7 pills a day. SPERMFUEL+ is the strongest 2-capsule formula we've checked, not the biggest.
Best for: men who want trial-level doses without a handful of pills every morning. Comes with a 120-day money-back guarantee, long enough to cover a full sperm cycle and your retest.
2. Vitabiotics Wellman Conception: the one you'll find everywhere
1 tablet a day.
Wellman Conception is on every high street shelf, and that's its biggest strength. It's easy to buy and easy to take.
The problem is in the numbers. CoQ10 is 2mg. The studies that showed better motility used 200mg or more, so you'd need about a hundred tablets a day to match them. Carnitine is 50mg against trial doses of 1,000mg plus. Zinc (15mg) and selenium (150mcg) are reasonable.
Best for: a general men's multivitamin while trying. Not for moving the numbers on a bad result.
3. Proxeed Plus: the carnitine specialist
1 powder sachet a day (some protocols use 2).
Proxeed Plus is built around carnitine: 1g L-carnitine plus 500mg acetyl-L-carnitine per sachet, close to the doses in the carnitine trials, and it has trials of its own. If speed is your main problem, that matters.
The rest is light: CoQ10 20mg, zinc 10mg, selenium 50mcg, and folic acid rather than methylfolate. It's a powder you mix daily, and one of the pricier options.
Best for: men whose motility is the only number that came back low, and who don't mind a daily sachet.
4. Conceive Plus Men's Fertility Support
2 capsules a day.
Conceive Plus is big in the UK and Europe and sells a lot of his-and-hers bundles. The men's capsule lists the right names, but the key actives are tiny: arginine and carnitine share a 150mg blend between them, against trial doses of 1,000mg plus for carnitine alone. Zinc 15mg, selenium 55mcg, folic acid 400mcg. No CoQ10 listed.
Best for: couples who want one brand for both partners. Not for a low motility result.
5. Fairhaven FertilAid for Men
3 capsules a day.
FertilAid is the US best-seller and easy to find on Amazon UK. The vitamin side is solid: zinc 30mg, selenium 100mcg, methylfolate. But CoQ10 and carnitine sit inside an 890mg proprietary blend with maca, grape seed and ginseng, so you can't know how much you're getting. Vitamin D is 400 IU. Buyer reviews also mention nausea and an unpleasant smell.
Best for: men who want a known name and don't need to see exact doses.
6. Fairhaven FH PRO for Men
6 capsules a day.
FH PRO is the most complete formula here on paper: 2,000mg carnitine, 200mg CoQ10, 30mg zinc, 140mcg selenium, NAC and lycopene, all fully disclosed. If dose were the only thing that mattered, it would win.
The catch is 6 capsules a day, every day, for at least three months. That's 540 capsules per sperm cycle, and many men stop well before day 74.
Best for: men who are disciplined with pills and want the maximum dose regardless of count.
7. Needed Sperm Support+
2 capsules a day.
Needed takes a different route: NAC 600mg, shilajit, alpha-lipoic acid, tongkat and lycopene, plus probiotics. It's an antioxidant and gut formula. It has no zinc, selenium, folate, CoQ10 or carnitine, the core of most fertility research.
Best for: stacking with a multi-nutrient formula, not as your only supplement.
What about Zita West Vitamen, Pregnacare His & Hers and own-brand tablets?
We left out formulas whose full daily doses we couldn't verify. Use the same three tests: check the CoQ10 dose (aim for 200mg), look for a blend that hides amounts, and count the pills per day.
What the research does and doesn't say
Supplements aren't magic, and any brand that says otherwise is selling you something. Here's the honest picture:
- CoQ10 has the strongest evidence. A 2026 meta-analysis of 9 trials and 781 men found higher sperm concentration and motility with supplementation. A 2025 meta-analysis of 8 trials (877 men) found better total count, motility and shape, but no significant change in concentration.
- Carnitine is one of the best-supported options for motility, in double-blind trials (Lenzi 2003; Lenzi 2004; Balercia 2005).
- Selenium at 100 to 200mcg improved motility in several trials.
- Large reviews (Cochrane 2022) show individual numbers improving, but no supplement has been proven to raise live birth rates on its own. Most trials are small.
What that means for you: pick a formula with trial-level doses, take it every day for at least 90 days, then retest. That's a fair test. Anything less isn't.
The 90-day rule
Sperm take roughly 74 days to make from start to finish. The sperm on your next test don't exist yet. Whatever you take this week shows up in a semen analysis about three months from now. So:
- Pick one formula with real doses.
- Take it every day for 90 days. No breaks.
- Retest. Compare count, motility and morphology, not just "it felt like it worked".

FAQ
What is the best male fertility supplement in the UK? It depends on your result, but look for CoQ10 around 200mg, real carnitine, 30mg zinc, 100 to 200mcg selenium and methylfolate, with every dose printed. On our comparison, SPERMFUEL+ carries the most of those doses in the fewest capsules (2 a day). FH PRO carries more but takes 6 capsules.
Do male fertility supplements actually work? Studies show individual numbers like motility and concentration improving with CoQ10, carnitine and selenium. No supplement has been proven to raise live birth rates on its own. Give any formula a full 90 days before judging it.
How long do fertility supplements take to work for men? Around 74 days for one full sperm cycle, so retest after about 3 months.
Is Wellman Conception good for sperm? It's a reasonable men's multivitamin, but its CoQ10 (2mg) and carnitine (50mg) are far below the doses used in fertility trials.
Can I take a male fertility supplement alongside IVF? Speak to your clinic first. If you haven't started treatment yet, the 90 days before is the best window to work on your numbers.
