Key takeaways
- Wellman Conception has 2mg of CoQ10. Fertility trials used 200 to 400mg a day.
- Its carnitine is 50mg, against trial doses of 1 to 3g.
- Its zinc (15mg) and selenium (150mcg) are useful. It works as a general men's multivitamin.
- If your result flagged low motility, the CoQ10 dose is the number to check.
Wellman Conception is probably the first men's fertility supplement you saw. It's on the shelf in Boots, Superdrug and Holland & Barrett, the box looks medical, and the name says exactly what you want. A lot of men buy it the same week their semen analysis comes back.
So it's a fair question: if you've been taking Wellman Conception, is it doing the job? The only honest way to answer is to put the two labels side by side and compare them against the doses the fertility studies actually used.
Every Wellman number below comes from the nutritional information Vitabiotics publishes for Wellman Conception (checked October 2026).

Where the gap really is
CoQ10: 2mg vs 200mg
This is the big one. CoQ10 has the strongest research of any nutrient for sperm: a 2026 meta-analysis of 9 trials and 781 men found better concentration and motility with supplementation, at doses of 200 to 400mg a day. A 2025 meta-analysis of 8 trials (877 men) also found better count, motility and shape, though not higher concentration.
Wellman Conception contains 2mg. To match the trial dose, you'd need 100 tablets a day. SPERMFUEL+ contains 200mg in 2 capsules. If motility (speed) was flagged on your result, this is the number that matters most. More on CoQ10 and the dose the studies used.
Carnitine: 50mg vs 440mg
Carnitine is the other half of the "speed stack", helping move fuel into the sperm's energy section. The trials used 1 to 3g a day. Wellman has 50mg. SPERMFUEL+ has 440mg of acetyl-L-carnitine. Neither reaches the top trial doses (that takes a powder like Proxeed Plus or 6 capsules of FH PRO), but 440mg is nearly 9 times Wellman's dose.
Vitamin D: 600 IU vs 4,000 IU
Low vitamin D is common in the UK, especially from October to March. Wellman has 600 IU. SPERMFUEL+ has 4,000 IU, the upper safe daily limit set for adults by the UK and EU.
Zinc and selenium: closer
This is where Wellman holds up. Zinc is 15mg vs 30mg and selenium is 150mcg vs 200mcg. Both of Wellman's doses are reasonable. SPERMFUEL+ carries the higher end of what the research used.
Where Wellman Conception wins
To be fair to it:
- 1 tablet a day. It's the easiest routine on the market.
- It's everywhere. You can buy it on any UK high street today.
- It's a broader multivitamin. It includes vitamin A, B1, B2, biotin, iron, magnesium, copper and chromium, plus maca, Siberian ginseng and pine bark.
- It's suitable for vegetarians. SPERMFUEL+ uses a beef gelatin capsule.
If you want a general men's multivitamin while you and your partner are trying, Wellman Conception does that job.
Where SPERMFUEL+ wins
- Trial-level CoQ10 (200mg vs 2mg), the best-supported nutrient for sperm speed
- Nearly 9 times the carnitine (440mg vs 50mg)
- Higher zinc, selenium and vitamin D, at the top of the ranges the research used
- Every dose printed on the label, all 14 fertility nutrients, no blend
- A 120-day money-back guarantee, long enough to cover a full sperm cycle and your retest
Which one should you take?
Choose Wellman Conception if: your semen analysis came back normal, you just want a general men's multivitamin while trying, and you value one tablet a day above everything else.
Choose SPERMFUEL+ if: your result flagged low motility, low count or poor morphology, and you want the doses the studies actually tested, in 2 capsules a day.
Don't take both. You'd double up on zinc, selenium and vitamin D. Pick one formula and take it every day for 90 days, because sperm take about 74 days to make. Then retest and compare count, motility and morphology line by line. What your semen analysis numbers mean.
The honest bottom line
Wellman Conception isn't a bad product. It's a good general multivitamin with a fertility name on the box. The problem is what men expect from it: the ingredients that do the heavy lifting for sperm speed are there in name, at a dose 100 times too small.
If you've taken Wellman for three months and your numbers haven't moved, that isn't proof that nutrition doesn't work. It may just mean the dose never got close to what the studies tested.
